When is a calendar-year individual return due, and can I extend it?
The return is due on the 15th day of the fourth month after the tax year ends, so April 15 for a calendar-year filer [1]. Filing Form 4868 by that date gives an automatic six-month extension of time to file, but not of time to pay [2].
